Product Overview

Semogue 830 Pure Bristle Shaving Brush

Product

The Semogue 830 Pure Bristle Shaving brush is a great looking brush with contemporary European styling. It features a subtle concave hexagonal solid acrylic handle, which features an eye catching transparent two tone design and is available in stunning red with crystal clear contrast. The handle carries the unmistakable 'Excelsior' badge and is topped with a 'silver' collar, which holds the renowned Semogue densely filled Pure Boar (Badger effect) Bristle loft. A beautiful looking brush with excellent performance. Hand Made in Portugal.

How to use

The brush bristles should be wet (not soaking) before use. Load the loft with soap or cream and apply to the areas to be shaved, using a strong circular motion. This softens the hairs and also raises them ready for shaving.

We strongly recommend the following aftercare for your brush; When finished always rinse the brush under hot water (especially at the base of the bristles) to remove any remaining soap residue which can result in damage to the bristle and cause early shedding of the loft. The brush should then be stored loft facing down to dry. This can be achieved by using a shaving brush stand and prevents the bristles rotting at the base due to moisture.

Recommended for

Both shaving creams and shaving soaps and all skin types.

Grooming tip

When applying a shaving lather to your skin always use strong circular movements to help soften and raise the hairs and prepare the skin for shaving.

    So far so good

Seems like a good brush however I've not used it that much yet. I broke it in a bit over first couple of days and it seems pretty soft for a boar... may lack a little backbone over the years to come and may take a little more soap to get a 3rd pass from. Beautiful handle though, very comfortable to use and face lather with. Nice addition to my collection.

    Boar best?

Posted by Dan Wiggins on 24th May 2018

I'd seen this brush being used on a popular online wet shave channel. The look of the acrylic handle appealed to me and online videos showed the brush working well with soaps. I decided to give it a go considering how competitively priced it is on Maguire's: I was expecting to see it priced much higher given how highly recommended this model is. I've used the brush twice now, once with a cream and once with a soap. The online reviews do it justice! I personally rate the Semogue 830 to be in the same league as some of the Best Badger brushes I've got, which I paid at least another £15 for. The brush is still firm but I was easily able to get excellent lathers. The acrylic handle gives it a nice weight (or as another reviewer put it "backbone"), which I think is what's helped me to get great lathers with a cream in a bowl and on the face with soap. To be honest I had my easiest experience building up lather with soap and the 830. I'm looking forward to how this brush will develop after it's been broken in. Unlike other brushes I've bought there wasn't much of a smell when taken out of the box. That's been ideal for me because other brushes I have took a good while to stop smelling 'funky.' Definitely worth having in your kit.

    superb

I got this to replace my last Semogue 830. It finally wore out after 4 years! Quite simply, it’s the finest shaving brush you can get in this price range. The boar hair has great backbone and makes shaving a smooth, sleek experience. I can’t recommend the Semogue 830 highly enough!

First time customer at Macguires, very impressed with the speed of delivery having only ordered this yesterday ! Ordered the Semogue stand to go with this beautiful boar brush. All I have to do now is break it in. Read so many good reviews of this, at £14.95, it's fantastic value. Look forwards to ordering from you again, many thanks from a newbie to the world of DE shaving !

Individual hairs deviating from rest of brush

Posted by First-time customer on 27th Oct 2014

Used my brush once and some of the hairs seems to be bending out from the main "cluster". This impacts the brush' visual appeal when standing by my sink. Otherwise the brush seems to be functioning well.

    Give boar a chance

Posted by Darryl on 27th Oct 2014

This is a truly outstanding brush for the price please give this boar hair brush a chance. Beautifully made, a little firm at first but soon softens up. Paired with the cella shaving cream, which by the way is the best shaving cream I have tried and I've tried a few, made for a luxurious shave. First time I have used Maguires and what an outstanding service, and very competitive on price.

    Top notch from portugal

Posted by Steve M on 10th May 2014

Wow what a brush even though it was straight out the box it is so soft and lathered up like a beast nice thick creamy lather enough for 3 passes without any issue. If you haven't tried the semogue brushes you don't know what your missing but I will say that the boar brushes do take a while to break in so be patient with them. As always super service from maguires, FAULTLESS
