Brand Information

Aqua Velva

Aqua Velva is a line of men's grooming products, including a widely advertised aftershave originally introduced as an alcohol-based mouthwash for men in 1929 by the JB Williams Company (later acquired by GlaxoSmithKline). As of 2009, it is marketed worldwide by Combe Incorporated. You don't last for 80+ years in the business with an inferior product and Aqua Velva still has many fans. Its 'masculine' and cool feel has been called classically American and is referred to as a 'rite-of-passage' aftershave for a father wanting to pass down a love for real shaving.

    A Very Nice Aftershave

Posted by Chris on 26th Oct 2019

How did I get to sixty without discovering Aqua Velva, I wanted to give this a fair trial so I done the usual pre prep using Glice oil soap rinsed some off but not all leaving the face slippery, lathered over the top and then three pass shave, instead off my normal Nivia aftershave balm I just splashed some Aqua Velva on instead, wonderfull cool sensation and left my skin feeling really good Two hours later my skin feels soft without being oily and the aroma is still pleasant without being over the top, I will be using this again.

    Dad's aftershave

Posted by John on 26th Oct 2017

My Dad (1920--1997) used this and I remember the blue bottle on his shelf above the sink with razor shaving brush etc. It was his only concession to grooming--no deodorant etc !!! I did find a bottle in Portugal in 1990 but delighted to have tracked it down in the UK.

There is a reason this is a classic.

I have never used aftershave before, but found this completely by accident. I was looking for something that smelled like Brylcreem, because as it turns out there is no such thing as a Brylcreem aftershave, but I knew I wanted something I can use everyday that has a 'fresh' slightly musky, slightly soapy scent and not too strong. It's difficult to describe, but chances are if you're looking for that fresh aftershavy smell that your dad used to wear, this is probably it, or at the very least hits some of those notes. Use it each time after I shave, turn it upside down on the palm and literally use just a drop, then briefly massage it all over the face, leaves you feeling very refreshed and the smell (which slightly changes upon contact with skin,) is very pleasant and nostalgic, lasting for a good two hours after applied. I also love that it's in a glass bottle!

    A true classic

Posted by Patrick Ryan on 13th Jul 2015

Fantastic post shave properties: the menthol cools everything down, the witch hazel heals and the lanolin conditions the skin. The smell is what I'd describe as "everyday": a light, pleasant, refreshing and slightly soapy. A very clean smell that I'd be happy to wear every day. It's also a great product for the price. I was going to say it reminds me of the 50's, but apparently this first came out in 1935. A true classic.

Excellent, cooling and healing after shave. Its packed with some great skin healing properties - witch hazel, lanolin and menthol. Great for the summer months and the serious other likes the smell too - always a bonus! Not surprised it had been around for so long - an American Classic.
