Product Overview

Merkur Futur Double Edge (DE) Safety Razor - Satin Chrome

Product

The Merkur Futur Double Edge (DE) Safety Razor is a both a techically advanced and beautifully crafted razor featuring a closed comb butterfly action, TTO (twist to open) system which allows quick and safe blade replacement. The quality which is synonymous with Merkur is evident in every detail and not least the unique micro adjustments on the blade guards. The longer length handle is futuristic in design and perfectly complements the satin chrome finish, whilst the ergonomics maximise grip, even with wet hands. The long flowing lines of the base allow for easy blade swapping and also add the finishing touch to an eye catching razor. The razor sits comfortably in the hand and the weight is evenly distributed along the length of the handle, achieving a well balanced easy to use razor. The handle is topped with a matching die-cast zinc razor head which is finished in Satin Chrome. An ultra-modern looking razor and a sought after favourite. Supplied with one Merkur Super Platinum DE Razor Blade.

Made in Germany (Solingen).

How to Use

The Razor head covers are opened by unscrewing the base of the handle. The covering heads then fold open to reveal the blade. Insert any standard double edge razor blade over the slots and screw the base to close the head covers. Slight adjustments on the blade guards are achieved by moving the numerical increments on the handle. It's that simple and then you are ready to go!

    Brilliant

This was a replacement Futur as I managed to drop my original one and lose the 'lid'. Bloody annoying. Anyway, I replaced it with the same razor because I have never found a better razor. It can be everything and anything, from a starter, taking care, non-aggressive shave or aggressive enough to take the top layer of your skin off! It's just brilliant.

    Smooth Operator

Posted by Jim Needham on 9th Dec 2014

One of the characteristics of this razor that I find really pleasing is that it is smooooth: there are no 'sharp' corners like you will find on most other DE razor heads. Yes, it's heavy - but only about 12gms heavier than my Merkur 38C so I don't find that a problem; in fact, it's a razor that you really can - and should - allow its own weight to do the work: no pressure! In use I, personally (and I know reviewers here & elsewhere have commented about this) have had no problem shaving under the nose etc., but everybody is different. Bottom line: does it give a better shave than the 38C, for example? Well, thus far (and admittedly I've not had it very long, so I'm still in the 'experimental' stage in regard to the various settings 1-6) I'm discovering that the answer is 'no'. But I love it; it's different and a joy to use.

    It doesn't take prisoners

Large and heavy. More of a combine harvester than a foil. Not ideal for under the nose and the top lip but otherwise excellent. I have only used it on the minimum setting so far i.e. at less than setting one. Neutral soap in the shower, almond oil, shaving cream, and then two passes equalled a perfect shave. Recommended.
