Merkur 37C Slant Double Edge (DE) Safety Razor

Product

The Merkur 37C Double Edge (DE) Safety Razor is a beautifully crafted and finished 2 piece razor. The quality which is synonymous with Merkur is evident in every detail. The shorter length handle is chromed brass with precision milling along the whole section which allows for a superior grip even when hands are wet. The matching base allows for easy blade swapping and also adds the finishing touch to an eye catching razor. The razor sits comfortably in the hand and the weight is evenly distributed along the length of the handle, achieving a well balanced easy to use razor. The handle is topped with the famous Merkur 'slant' head which is die-casted zinc and finished in Polished Chrome. An elegant looking razor and a popular favourite. Supplied with one Merkur Super Platinum DE Razor Blade.

Made in Germany (Solingen).

How to Use

The Razor head is released by unscewing the handle and lifting the cover clear to insert the blade. Slot the head cover back in place, screw and tighten the handle and you're ready to go - Simple!

    37c Slant razor

Posted by Unknown on 11th Jan 2024

Wanted to try a slant razor and impressed with the shave having used it 10 times not. Not as harsh as I expected. Cleans stumble effectively and is smooth to use with a Voskhod blade. Yet to experiment with other blades.

    Excellent close shaver!

I normally use straight razors but i needed a DE for travel and for "rush mornings". This was my first go with a slant and I'm very impressed! Forget all that you may have heard about these being aggressive.......this one is very easy going as long as you give it due respect. Just load it with your preferred blade (I opted for Feather first time around), go steady and enjoy a super smooth shave!

Really happy with this razor, however it is not for a beginner to DE safety razors. Good quality and price.

    Solid Razor

Unbelievably smooth and easy shave with Gilette Rubie Plus blade. The best performance I had so far from a DE razor. Looks and feels very solid. Absolutely brilliant!

    adore it

It gives me very might but effektive shave. This small handle is very comfortable, easy to operate. Happy that get this one instead of 39C. I use feather blades, they feel might in this razor, and give very close shave.

    Learning curve

I hummed and hawed over buying this for ages; my first and only DE to date is an Edwin Jagger/Muhle R89 closed comb head, this gives a very smooth and forgiving shave and is a completely different animal. I have only used the 37C twice since receiving it last week, and I am impressed if not overawed by it yet. First impressions are positive, the finish is the expected high quality (I will say I think the chroming on the Muhle is better) and it has a reassuring weightiness to it, altogether it looks like a serious piece of engineering. Unscrewing the head is simple and loading the razor with a blade is quick and easy. The knurled handle provides excellent grip when wet but feels short compared to my DE86 so some adjustment to grip was required on first use; the head is large and with it's twisted shape I had to pause to get my eye in so to speak when presenting it to my face, this is just the novelty of a new razor however. Being a morning shaver and used to a forgiving razor I tend to use short fast strokes (blade buffing), this was not going to happen with my first use of the 37c, I quickly had to adjust to slower more deliberate strokes, but I did notice it was more aggressive than my DE86, and so required fewer passes, even so I had a few nicks after my first shave which I haven't seen in some time. My second shave the following day was more careful and resulted in zero nicks. I think this is a razor which lives up to its reputation as aggressive, but with familiarity will become my razor of choice when wanting that 'closer' shave. As far as blades go I have only used a Bolzano (my preferred brand) and have yet to try the Astra or Merkur supplied free issue with the purchase.
